     Sir Thomas Wentworth was the son of William Wentworth and Isabel Fitz Williams. He was a Knight.
     
     
      Sir Thomas Wentworth, who was knighted for his bravery at the Battle of Spurs, 16 August 1513. It will be seen that down to this period, the successors to the estate of Wentworth-Woodhouse were almost invariably only sons, and as invariably married heiresses or coheiresses.
     
     
      By this time, therefore, the wealth of this family had become enormous, as may be judged by the fact that this Sir Thomas bore the sobriquet of "Golden Thomas". He paid at one time a heavy fine to be excused from accepting the Order of the Bath, and in 1528 obtained a license from Henry VIII to remain covered in the royal presence. The reason alleged was his infirmity, arising from old age. But as he lived twenty years longer, the presumption is that the license was purchased at a great price for the purpose of gratifying a whim or some feeling of personal pride.


He married Beatrix Woodruff.1 Sir died on 5 December 1548.2
