John Crowe born in England or Wales, came over to this country in 1635, and was admitted the same year, an inhabitant of Charlestown, 1635-1638, of Yarmouth 1638, where he took the oath of allegiance to Plymouth Col. Rec. Dec. 18, 1638. His wife, Elishua, appears, came over before that date, as her name is entered as a member of the first church of Charlestown, 4 Nov. 1634.

Benoni, probably so named because he was born on the day of his father's death or within a day or two of the event. "The excellent Deacon Benoni Learned," says Rev. Mr. Morse, "served Sherborn as treasurer, selectman, representative in the general court, and for a long period in his early history his name was conspicuous, and it is evident that he was a man of sound and sonsistent piety. He was early in Sherborn and resided where the late Dr. Wythe resided. He was one of the signers to petition for the settlement of difficulties in regard to the meeting house, to enable the people to settle Mr. Daniel Gookin, Oct. 13, 1680.
