     Gilbertus died.
The earliest part of the Jocelyn lineage is according to the pedigree in several Visitation reports. There is no documentary evidence to support it until about 1201 after which date a few brief records establish a line of descent that seems to confirm the Visitation pedigree. The earliest and undocumented part before 1200 must be garbled for there are just too many generations for the chronology.

That the Jocelyn family was settled in England at an early date seems beyond doubt. In the Chronicles of the Monastery of Abingdon in Berkshire is the following entry. Altho there is no exact date given, it is apparently of about 1100 to 1135.

Concerning a certain Tithe: A certain knight, Jocelin by name, being well pleased by this religious house, gave to God and Saint Mary, in the presence of Dom vincent the Abbot and of the whole convent in chapter, two parts of a tithe of all his things which he had in a certain property, which is called "The Grove", both of crops and of livestock, or of all things upon which he ought rightfully to pay tithes. After whose death, Randolph his son did grant a fact, as to flocks or other things, he asserted that neither he hiself nor his father ever granted them. However, the truth of the matter having been heard from many people, in the time Dom Walchelin the Abbot he came into the chapter of the bretheren and himself devoutly granted the tithe of everything which his father gave. And, because that tithe had been assigned to the use of the sick bretheren, he, with his own hand placed upon the altar which was in the invalids' oratory, confirmed it in perpetuity.

Went into England with Edward the Confessor in 1042 and settled at Sempringham, in the County of Lincoln. No record has yet been found of the marriage of this Gilbertus, but that he had a son, Gilbertus (Galfridus) is fully attested by records in Church and Government archives.
Gilbertus was born circa 1005 at Chateau de Jocelin, Brabant, Normandy, France.1

Louis IV, King of France -------------------------------- (Louis d'Outremer) Louis d'Outremer ("from overseas"), b. 921, d. Sept. 10, 954, was king of France from 936. Son of King CHARLES III (Charles the Simple), he was taken to England as a child by his mother Eadgifu, daughter of the Anglo-Saxon king Edward the Elder. Recalled to France to succeed King Raoul (r. 923-36), Louis struggled against Hugh the Great, count of Paris, through most of his reign. While attempting to conquer Normandy, he was captured in 945 and became Hugh's prisoner until 946. With the aid of the German king OTTO I, he eventually defeated Hugh, who made peace in 950.

It seems probable that he was born in Saybrook, CT; but no record of the date has been found; but his age given on his tombstone at Simsbury, CT., as seventy-seven years, indicates the date closely. On the Windsor, CT., records he is called as of Wethersfield from which place he, undoubtedly, came to Windsor from about 1710.
He was a farmer, the alomost universal occupation of the people there in those days, and was long one of the foremost men of Simsbury, CT. He was prominent in the affairs of town and church. He was first taxed in Simsbury in 1699, having bought land there from Eleazar Hill, 26 March 1698. He was chosen Deacon of the Church in Simsbury in 1715, which office he held until his death, he and his first wife having been admitted to the church there in December, 1698.
James accumulated quite a property for those times, his estate inventorying 860lbs., and was divided by will dated 8 February 1740, among the children by his second wife. He also confirmed the children by his first wife in the portions they had received from him from time to time, as he had given them them their portions as they had become of age.
James was born in 1663 at Saybrook, Connecticut.1 He was the son of James Cornish and Phebe Brown. He married Elizabeth Thrall on 10 November 1693 at Windsor, Connecticut.2,3 He married Hannah Hilliard on 15 April 1715.1 James died on 2 April 1740 at Simsbury, Connecticut.1

In his will, dated 16 Feb. 1692, he left all his estate of every kind to his only dughter Hannah, then in her seventeenth year, making her his sole heir and executor. By a codicil he directs that if his daughter die without issue, the property is to descend to James Hillyer, the son of my brother James Hillyer.      Charles Martel

The Frankish ruler Charles Martel, born c.688, died October 22, 741, was the first CAROLINGIAN to bring most of what is today France under his control. He was the illegitimate son of Pepin of Heristal, mayor of the palace in AUSTRASIA. When his father died (714) Charles fought for five years against Pepin's widow, Plectrude; Ragemfred, mayor of the palace in NEUSTRIA; and Radbod, duke of the Frisians, to secure his position as mayor. from 719 until his death, Charles worked to expand Carolingian domination. In 732 or 733 he stopped the Muslim Arab advance northward from Spain in a celebrated battle between Poitiers and Tours. He conquered (733) Burgundy and thereafter fought steadily in the south of France. Although Charles supported the Christian mission of St. BONIFACE in Germany, he declined to help Pope Gregory III against the LOMBARDS in Italy. When Charles died he was succeeded as mayor of the palace by his sons PEPIN THE SHORT and Carloman.

Charles was born circa 688.2,3 He was the son of Pepin II of Heristal and Aupais. He married Chrotrude Duchess of Austrasia circa 713.4 He married Swanhilde A Bavarian after 714.5 Charles Martel "The Hammer" was Crowned in 724; King of the Franks [Carolingian].
