"Giles Rickard sailed on the Speedwell leaving Weymouth, Dorset 22 April 1623, with his wife and three children, plus one boy and one maid, the same ship taken by his wife's brother, Henry Cogan and some other West England people who settled in Plymouth Colony, such as Elizabeth Poole, Walter Harris, John Crocker and Thomas Farwell. His wife was the widow of William King. The three children accompanying him were his sons Giles Rickard and John Rickard and his wife's son Samuel King by her first marriage.
On 4 December 1637 Giles Rickard was granted seven acres of land in Plymouth, which he could not alienate, and if uninhabited would be returned to the town; on 2 January 1637 Giles Rickard and John Barnes were sureties for 20lb each for Will Corvanel to appear at court; on 6 March 1637 Giles Rickard petitioned to be admitted a freeman, on 4 September 1638 he was on the jury that convicted four Englishmen of murdering an Indian; on 16 April 1639 he and John .b Barnes were sureties for 20lb each for the appearance at court of Richard Derby, gentleman. On 4 October 1648 he was on a trial jury that convicted Alice Bishop of murdering her daughter. Notwithstanding his frequent membership on grand juries, on 9 June 1653 he was presented by a grand jury for lascivious carriages towards Mary, the daughter of Barnard Lumberd of Barnstable; yet, on 1 June 1658 he was selected again as constable for Plymouth. On 1 March 1658 he was granted a license to keep an ordinary at Plymouth for entertaining visitors, but not for the use of the townspeople; this was renewed on 7 March 1659, with a provision that he could also sell wine and strong liquors to townspeople, but only to be consumed in their own houses, and another renewal was granted 10 June 1661. On 5 March 1660 he was fined ten shillings for selling wine to Indians. He was fined or given short jail sentences for other offences, such as for allowing John Barnes to be drunk in his house and for swearing. On 31 October 1666 his liquor license was revoked, though after he complained that the liquor on hand would be lost, he was allowed to sell his remaining stock to out-of-towners, or to townspeople for the relief of the weak or sick.
Giles Rickard was a weaver by trade. His residence in Plymouth was a little south of the bridge over Town Brook, with the highway to Sandwich cutting between his lands and those of John Barnes. Giles Rickard dated his will 8 January 1684 and the witnesses, Ephraim Morton and William Harlow, swore to it on 5 March 1684. In his will he called himself a weaver and named his wife Hannah, who was to get the lower and upper rooms, garret, and little bedroom of his house in Plymouth, plus one-half of his shop and barn and the benefit of one-half of his land and orchard, plus his second best bed, suitable furniture, bedclothes, a pewter platter, other household items, and two cows. He also left bequests to his grandson John Rickard, son of his son John, and to Giles and John Rickard, sons of his son Giles. The residue of his estate was left to his son Giles. His inventory of 6 February 1684 consisted of several pieces of real estate valued at 95 lbs and about 66 lbs in livestock and personal property, including some small books and two Bibles."

John Dunham of Scrooby Notts, weaver, went first to Leyden, Holland, circa 1618. John Dunham and three children (John, Humility, and Thomas) were listed as living in the Zevenhuysen section of Leiden on 15 October 1622 [NS][Dexter612], in a survey which was conveniently taken between the dates of John Dunham's betrothal and marriage to his second wife. Is supposed to have immigrated to Plymouth ca. 1630 with wife and several children. He was considered a first son, and received land in the first land division. In 1632 he was assigned land for pasturing his cattle, and was taxed for military service. In 1633 John, who had been a protege of Elder Brewster, his Scrooby neighbor, was made deacon of the Plymouth church, showing in what high esteem he was held. This was the second entry in the town records.
In 1633 the town board lists his land on the southern boundary, and same year he was made a freeman. In 1638 he advertised cattle; he was a dealer. Was made deputy to the General Court 1638-64, served as a member of the Plymouth Military Co. 1643, on many important town committees, was one of those who revised the Colony's laws in 1650, and among the first purchasers of Dartmouth. In 1662 land was granted his son John as a first born of the early comers. His house was southwest of Plymouth, and adjacent swamp had an outlet called to this day Dunham Brook. He died at 81, a revered old man, his will witnessed by John Cotton, Thomas Cushman, and Thomas Southworth. (which may be seen in Mayflower Desc.) "Hee was an approued seruant of God, and a vsefull man in his place, being a deacon of the church of Christ att Plymouth." A granddaughter of John and Abigail married the grandson of John and Priscilla Alden, whose romance has fascinated Americans for over 300 years. His wife was living at his death.
